Happy Thanksgiving and other things

All ready for Thanksgiving? I'm as ready as i will ever be. I'm having my dad, sister and her boys over for a 2:30 dinner. Unfortunately my oldest has to work until 6:30pm but we're going to have a light meal with him around 7pm. Today was my youngest's 10th birthday! We went to Uno's for dinner and he was so surprised when they came out with a giant cookie singing Happy Birthday to him. I could kick myself for not having my camera. Also went to Toys R Us for the birthday present. He loves Legos!

Wishing you all a Happy and Safe Thaksgiving! Take care and enjoy the holiday with friends and family.

~~~~~~Gearing up for Thanksgiving~~~~~~
Hi everybody! I'm meeting with my friend on Wed. night regarding the pendants. I will let you know the outcome. :) Other then that I need to get things moving for Thanksgiving on Thursday. My downstairs is pretty clean so that isn't an issue. I need to do some work in my multipurpose room as that is where we're having dinner. I'm still not completely organized from the room redo my husband did over this past year. It is just now complete. So I basically need to clear the counter tops of my art supplies, etc., and it will be ready for Thanksgiving dinner. The table is ready, well in place. ;) I'll try to take some pictures of the redo when I get a chance and possibly get some of Thanksgiving.
Here's a piece I did last week. I do not think I shared this as I was so obsessed with the pendant predicament. I put a pin back on the little angel.
I had fun making her but truth be known it was a bit tedious so I do not know if I'm making any for my upcoming show to sell. I did have some ideas to use clay faces on them as well. We'll see if I change my mind. ;) I also need to be more careful when I work. I'm so rough with my findings and pieces.
Watched Imagine That over the weekend. I must say, it was one of the cutest movies I've seen in a long time. I LOVE that Eddie Murphy over the past few years is doing more family movies. He's a scream in this movie. When he did Daddy Day Care I thought that was adorable but Imagine That tops Daddy Day Care in my book. It's such a sweet story of how a distracted father ends up learning how important it is to spend time with this daughter. So sweet.
Take care and have a great week!
Resin Mess...what to do?
I am so aggravated right now. I poured the resin for the pendant order today. I carefully coated each collage/pic. 3 to 4 times on each side, let them dry thoroughly between coats. I still ended up getting spots on the pictures when I poured the resin. You can't see the spots in the pics. below but they are there. The other week when I made pendants and ornaments I had no problem with this. The only thing that I did differently is put the inchies on scrapbook paper for some extra strength and what must have happened is that there were gaps on the sides where the resin bled under the inchie. *sigh I guess I won't back them with paper again. Well here they are.
I didn't have a problem with the ornaments..no spots. I think it's because they are winter post faux stamps from Ten Two Studios. They have an adhesive back.
Here are some of the pendants. You might be able to see the shadow on the "Her Story" pendant at right.
I also made myself some charms that I'm making into earrings.
On top of everything I mixed way too much resin and had to waste a ton. Oh well...live and learn. The spots bother me but I'd still wear the pendants. I'm not extremely picky when it comes to those things. It's not like they look hideous but you can see the spots on them. I think I'll still offer them to her and give her a discount. It's either take them as is or cancel the order. I do not have duplicates of the inchies as I bought them from Art Chix. I would have to reorder them, etc. which would back up the order process. What would you do in this situation? Would you offer the pendants as is at a discount or would you cancel the order? Any input is appreciated!
Tree Display
I picked up this 4 FOOT TREE! for $5.00 at A.C. Moore yesterday. I have a jewelry show coming up soon with my friend Carol and she made a display with a tree branch and flower pot. It is really cute! I was going to do that as well but then saw this tree for $5.00 and figured why bother! So here it is with a few pieces on it. I will probably be able to hang most of my necklaces on it for display.
This pic has one of my necklaces hanging from the branch.
This next one has the resin filled spoon ornaments I have been making.
Well I still have the pendants to make for that order I told you about last week. I will most likely get to them tonight. I wanted to make them this afternoon but something came up. I have a friend suffering from kidney stones and wanted to make her and her family a meal. Mixing and pouring resin needs my undivided attention and as much as I like to multi-task I know it would have been a disaster if I had tried to be running back and forth between the kitchen and my studio! Any who, I will be back later. TTFN
More angels on the way....
I know it's feast or famine here with the way I post. I do apologize! I either have nothing to say for weeks or I'm posting every other day.
I have decided to lay off Facebook for a while. Well, cut back significantly. It's been fun but I feel like I'm back in high school again with the drama and antics. And I'm the type of person who gets way to involved in things I don't need to. *sigh So if I cut back on my Facebook time I should have more time for art and my blog. I must admit that is another reason I have been neglecting this blog is because of FB. Not just because of FB friends but also because of my *ahem* obsession with Bejeweled. Yes, I am a Bejeweled addict. One game is too many and 1,000 are not enough. Am I the only blogger out there having problems with FB?
So that being said I have started 4 more angel ornaments. Here are the heads ready for glossy accents. I'm also going to cut those spoons tonight so I can get the pendant order done for my friend. Hopefully I will be pouring resin in the next day or two for the spoons.
TTFN and have a great week!
Finished Ornament
Well here she is my finished angel ornament. I'm sure as I make more I will tweak things here and there but I believe I have the basic construction down. The glossy accents are still drying on her little bottle cap head but I couldn't wait to share.Everything is wire wrapped together except I glued the bottle cap on with E-6000 glue. I tried to glue everything wings, body, etc. and it didn't work out. This is the time I REALLY wish I could solder. *sigh Maybe someday I will take a class and learn. The wire wrapping worked out really well. Ever since I saw Disney's The Grinch with Jim Carrey I have always wanted to make an angel like the one little Grinch boy makes for his childhood love. It ends up the one I made doesn't look much like the one from the movie but it reminds me of his piece. I would love to know who made that prop for the movie. It was the coolest thing! TTFN and enjoy the rest of the weekend!
Angel Ornament
Hi everyone! I am working on making some ornaments. Not sure how I'm going to put this together but I am trying a few things. The pic. above is just a temporary design while I try a few things out. I will share the finished piece when it's ready. I am trying to figure out how to make these on a smaller scale so they can be a pendant or pin. We'll see what I come up with.
I'm also working on some more pendants and ornaments with the spoons. I have an order for 5 spoon pendants that I need to have ready in a few weeks. Here are the inchies I'm using for the pendants. I'm working on coating them before pouring the resin.
I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend! Those of you getting hit by the Nor'easter, stay safe and you are in my prayers.
More spoon love and other things
Hello friends...gosh I miss blogging. It's just the way it is for now. I am making more spoon pendants and ornaments. Pouring the resin tonight after dinner. I have a home show tomorrow night with my friend Carol. Nothing like waiting until the last minute to pour resin. lol OH well, like I said it is just the way things are for now. You can click and enlarge the pics. if you'd like for a bigger view.
Love Art Chix prints! Their inchies are perfect for a spoon. I think the larger spoons are winter post from Ten Two Studios. Will show shots of finished necklaces/ornaments when I can. Links for both of those fab art supply sources are linked from my sidebar.
What else? Oh I am so excited!!!!!! I am going to Art Opera in April! I signed up for Ruth Rae's class Hand Forged Talisman Jewelry. (The above pic is from the Art Opera blog)
Isn't that bracelet gorgeous? Ruth Rae is so talented and just thinking about taking a class with her makes me weak in the knees. I wanted to do the whole shabang but with my son being homeschooled and other responsibilities it just isn't good for me to be away for 3 or 4 days. My time will come. My oldest two are pretty much grown and my youngest is 10. Lord willing I will be able to do a full retreat down the road but for now it is just not going to happen. AND I am just tickled to be able to go if only to one class and am so delighted that it's less then 2 hours from where I live. I hope it works out and Lisa has more Art Opera events. This area really needs it!
I can't think of anything else but that I do cruise through and look at your blogs when I can and I will try to post again soon if I'm able. Take care and ttfn!!!!
What's goin' on..
Hi bloggy friends! Here are a few pictures of those spoon ornaments I made last week with the resin. I got some ribbon on them and took a few more shots that are a little better then the other ones I shared. The close up shot is anyway. I realize that the best way to photograph a lot of my stuff is to go outside in the day light. I will try to keep that in mind when posting pics in the future.
In other areas of my life, I'm trying to get my sleeping problems straightened out and am doing an at home sleep study for the next few days. Last night was a disaster as I could only wear the contraption for 2 1/2 hours. My arm kept falling asleep because of the monitor that was attached to it and my snoring must have woke me up 15 times in two hours or so it seemed. Anyway, I called the center today and they said I need to wear it for at least 4 to 6 hours a night for them to be able to use the recordings. So when I get off of here I will be getting ready for another night of this. I pray that something will be found to explain what my problem is. It's pretty obvious that I have a snoring problem but I guess after this I will be able to get a c-pap or some kind of equipment to help me so I sleep better. Being overweight doesn't help either nor do my allergies. I have not slept well for such a long time that it is really starting to affect me mentally and physically. Anyway, enough of that. I am hoping that I can make some more ornaments and pendants in the next few days and when I do I will share them here.
I did it!
I did it..I really did it. lol It was very easy. Thanks for the tips. Now for the real test. Let's see how well it cures. Plus it was low odor. The only difficulty I can see is possibly the embedded paper moving and not staying put. So I will keep my eye on these for a little while. Thanks again and I am excited to use Easy Cast again.
I'm freaking out...
I bought Easy Cast two part resin a few weeks ago and REALLY want to try it but I'm freaking out! I am so scared to use this stuff. I have used Ranger Glossy Accents on my pieces but because of the size of the spoons and also wanting something more durable on my jewelry and ornaments I decided to try Easy Cast. This is what I want to use it for.
I am making ornaments and pendants with spoons. I made a pendant a few weeks ago and shared it at this post
I guess the best thing for me to do is mix just a little bit of it and use it on something else first. If anyone has any pointers or can direct me to a good source please feel free to comment! Any and all help is appreciated.I think I'm going to go to the Easy Cast website and see if there are any tutorials there. ttfn
Go here for details on entering to win a stunning bag by Andrea at Vintage Bella Studio The above pic is a bag of hers that was featured in Haute Handbags. She'll be making something similar to giveaway. Good luck!!!!! ttfn
I missed you art journal....and YEAH PHILLIES!
I have been reading a book called Bounderies by Henry Cloud and John Townsend. My pages in my art journal reflect what I'm learning from the book and the things I need to work through in order to have healthy bounderies. I miss art journaling! I really need to get a book and prep it so it's ready and try try try to work in it on a regular basis. My painting and drawing are rusty since I haven't done either for quite a while but that's ok.
Well, that is about it. Oh and one more thing.....................YEAH PHILLIES! WORLD SERIES HERE WE COME! TTFN friends.
